Dr. Naghshineh received his bachelor’ and master’ degrees from Louisiana State University in
mechanical engineering. He then worked for the BF Goodrich Tire Research Center in Akron,
Ohio, and later at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He joined the Penn State Noise Control
lab in 1988 while pursuing his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, specializing in structural
acoustics and active noise control. After receiving his doctoral degree, Naghshineh worked at
SRI International in Menlo Park, Calif. He was a professor at Western Michigan University
(#WMU) from 1994 to 2020, conducting research, teaching courses, and supervising both
graduate and undergraduate students.

Naghshineh has an extensive record of industrial collaborations. His research was supported by
government agencies such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of
Health, as well as many industrial partners including General Motors and Nissan. He also
collaborated in blindness and low vision studies with research partners in WMU’s College of
Health and Human Services as well as with the biological science department in the College of
Arts and Sciences. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Michigan.

Dr. Naghshineh served as the Mechanical Engineering graduate program academic adviser
from 2005 to 2016. He was the Interim Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research
and then the Chair of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department at Western
Michigan University’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences from 2015 to 2020. He
retired from his academic career in August of 2020 and has been writing books since then.
